REWRITING HISTORY

Tourism Department of Government of Uttar Pradesh has removed Taj Mahal as a tourist destination of Uttar Pradesh. This is one of the many attempts to erase and rewrite history. Congratulations.

Changing of roads happened in the past also but changing names of Baazars ? Changing of Institutions happened in the past also but changing names of historical monument? We are for grand changing after 2014 BJP taking over at the center. Yogi Addityanath , U P Chief Minister is going one step further. Soon Mughalsarai may have another name.  Not sure what will happen to Lucknow, Allahabad. The process is on.

There are some Mughal and British time monuments and Institutions. Victoria Memorial Hall Kolkata,  Gate of India Mumbai, Aligarh University Aligarh, India Gate and Kutub Minar in Delhi, to name a few. May be that too is on the agenda.

Same thing is happening in the USA, bringing down the statues of civil war period. That sounds feasible because these statues can be shifted to museums. Museums are temples of learning. But what about monuments? Can they be shifted to museums? Or will they be demolished like Babri Masjid? We cannot and should not forget history but we cannot reverse it. We can only learn from it. Remembering is not respecting or reverting, just learning for future.

There are better things to do for which a government is elected. A government is not elected for renaming roads, bazaars, institutions. A government is not elected to demolish historical minuments. Past atrocities can not be reason for present vendetta.

40 million people in 165 countries are trapped in multibillion dollar modern slave industry. Freedom, economic equality and social justice are the issues of the day. One of these countries is India. These are the issues.

May be you have no clue to solve such issues. Enjoy your time and retire with grace.

Governments should be solving them.
